[solved] QCAD crashes on Apple Silicon M1 Pro

On Apple Silicon M1 Pro, QCAD crashes almost systematically when it is not used for a few minutes.

The exact time before it crashes is very variable, it can be a minute or an hour.

It can crash when it is in the background and not being used at all, but more often it crashes when I bring it back to the foreground.

I could not make a connection to any particular event that could be the cause of the crashes.

Configuration
QCAD pro 3.27.6
macOS Monterey 12.5.1
MacBook Pro
Apple M1 Pro processor
16 Go RAM

Thanks for your report. Can you please attach a crash report (Applications > Utilities > Console > Crash Reports)?

We know there are some issued with QCAD on M1 due to the Qt version being used. We are working on an update to Qt 6 but that is a major effort that will still take some months.

Here are some crash reports.

I also have this problem. It’s a waste of money for apple. Hopefully someone will address this soon. It’s the only product that pretends like it should work.

Crashes even when open in the background and nothing is done in it

If you experience crashes on M1, please open your download link and download the package:

“QCAD Professional 3.28.1 (f) for macOS Qt 6 11.x, 12.x, 13.x arm64 (M1/M2, NOT for regular Intel Macs!)”

Note the “Qt 6” part in the package name.

This package uses a newer Qt version (Qt 6) which should hopefully fix these issue. Please report back if you experience any problems with this package.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to reproduce these crashes here, so they don’t seem to be occurring on all M1 systems or might depend on system preferences or other individual settings.

I downloaded correct version - mayby wrong ling on web?
From this page:

I get this file

Milan

There is an alternative package for M1. Note the “Qt 6” part in the package name.

QT6 (f) - not for download ?

That’s an error on our end, my apologies. Please reload the page and try again.
