Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

Presumably one tool is called Offset (With Distance) (OF) and the other Parallel (With Distance) (LP)
LP is a line tool, OF is a modification tool.
Same button icon but they differ indeed.

Remark that LP can do the same as AC or CC and vice versa.
Except the option for rays or endless lines.
Typically supporting: Line, Arcs, Circles and Ellipses.

Then OF or OQ are typically intended for polylines but supports other types as segment or as a chain of connected line-art.
In the Misc section there is yet another polyline tool with the same button icon as OQ.

Please post a screenshot if possible, so we can see which exact tools you are referring to.

You can very likely simply stick to the Modify > Offset tool as it offsets single entities as well as whole contours. Please refer also to our tutorial about that offset tool at:

Hi,

It doesn’t depend on where you pick a certain tool.

Almost all QCAD tools are listed in various locations.

  • Under the menus and their sub-menus
  • On a dedicated Toolbar
  • On the CAD Toolbar
  • In the Tool Matrix widget

Toolbars and Widgets visibility can be toggled, the location of Toolbars can be rearranged, the content of various listings can be altered.
You can thus fully customize the appearance of your QCAD GUI.

It really just depends on what category of tools they belong to.
The Line tool Parallel (with Distance) (LP) and the modification tool Offset (with Distance) (OF) have an identical button icon.
The tool tip when you wait a while before clicking and the functionality is different.

Same goes for the Line tool Parallel (through Point) (LG) and the modification tool Offset (through Point) (OH)

You can compare both the icons side by side in my screen capture.
Second row on the left is the Line Toolbar followed by the Modify Toolbar.
