drawing thread on end of spindle

Basically I want to thread end of shaft in Qcad.

Searched under “thread QCAD” and I find plenty of forum “topical threads” about any given topical thread, but nothing about M20 or UNF etc etc threads.

It must be tagged to a menu item which I can’t see, but not for want of looking.

Thanks.

Perhaps you can find an existing image online to explain what exactly you are trying to draw. There are various ways and standards to depict threads. Google image search might help.

Hi Andrew,

I have a shaft and I want to thread the smallest journal on the end of this shaft.

More correctly I want to draw the shaft with a thread on the end of it, much like the bolt shown.

Thanks.

Kevin

Such threads are typically represented as shown below in CAD. But as previously mentioned, there are different standards.

Hi Andrew,

I want to draw a UNF 60 degree thread form on the end of the spindle.

Kevin

Have a look at the image I’ve posted above. That’s how you typically represent a thread in CAD. In the dimension label, you then type the specifics about the thread (e.g. M10 for a metric thread with a diameter of 10 or UNF. You also see drawings with a leader pointing to the thread with a label “UNF”:

Are you thinking about drawing the actual thread lines? If so, don’t. The images I’ve posted show how to draw a thread in CAD.
